Shifts and Shift Schedules

Overview

Shifts represent a set of workers who share the same schedule and/or supervisor over the course of the work week. Our accounting software enables businesses to create and manage shifts, assign employees to shifts, and track work schedules.

Who uses it: HR personnel, managers, and accountants use shift management to track employee work schedules and attendance.

When to use it: Use shift management to create and manage shifts, assign employees to shifts, and track work schedules.

Navigation Path

To access shift management, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your accounting software.
  2. Navigate to the main menu.
  3. Click on "Employees".
  4. Click on "Shifts".

Field Descriptions

Shift Information

The following fields are associated with shift information:

Name The name of the shift Text -
Supervisor The supervisor responsible for oversight during the shift Employee name -
Employees The individuals working the particular shift Employee names -

Shift Schedule

The following fields are associated with shift schedules:

Valid From When the schedule is to start being implemented Date -
Valid To When it is scheduled to end Date -

Shift Schedule Line

The following fields are associated with shift schedule lines:

Field Name Purpose Expected Values Defaults
Shift The shift of employees for whom the schedule applies Shift name -
Start/End Time The range of times a shift is on the clock Time -
Monday - Sunday Checkboxes that represent all the days of the week the employees of a given shift will be working Yes/No -

Examples / Usage Notes

For example, let's say you want to create a new shift:

  1. Navigate to the shift management page.
  2. Click on "Create Shift".
  3. Enter the shift name, supervisor, and employees.
